The “ ABODE lifestyle” isn't about furniture, it's about the way people see themselves. It's about aspirations, life, and fashion. It's about surrounding yourself with colors, textures and styles. It's about an environment and service philosophy which allows you to select exciting products that will make your home an extension of your personality, to create your own personal habitat, your own abode! ABODE was founded by BARKitecture co-chair Bill Jackson (pictured right with his wife Colleen and their beloved dog Cork) on the philosophy that shopping for furniture should be fun and AFFORDABLE. Heck all of life should be fun, and what could be more fun than being part of BARKitecture! Bill and everyone at ABODE love animals and believe every animal deserves their own loving family! That’s why we are a proud sponsor of BARKitucture. At ABODE we believe in giving back and sponsor many other charitable and community events including Junior League of Wichita Holiday Galleria, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Societies Man & Woman of the Year, and many more. Go to our website at www.abodehome.com to learn more. Stop by ABODE and January 20 – February 2 to vote for your favorite Animal ABODE! In 1939 when most successful Wichita lumberyards were still located in the downtown area Star Lumber set up shop on a dusty corner well outside the city at West Street and Maple. Earl Goebel, Star's President, reasoned that the downtown area had already been built and the real need for lumber would be on the city's outskirts. He was betting that Wichita would grow. He was right. Over the ensuing sixty years, as Wichita expanded, so did Star Lumber, today the dominant building supply dealer in Kansas with over 450 employees and $120 million in revenue. Star Lumber and the Goebel family made it all happen through hard work, innovation, customer service and a willingness to take risks.
The Wichita Area Builders Association is the premier professional building and related trades organization in South Central Kansas. It consists of builder and associate members who are committed to ethical business practices, the highest construction standards, the education of members and the public, and serves as the “voice of the housing industry” in the community and political arena. Founded in 1951, WABA is one of 850 Associations affiliated with the National Association of Home Builders and is the 40th largest Association in the United States. WABA serves members in a seven county area and currently has over 1300 members. Home Builders Care is proud to be working with ABODE Home, Star Lumber and the Kansas Humane Society in presenting BARKitecture. The Home Builders Care Committee is a new Committee of the Association established under the auspices of the WABA Spike Club for the purpose of providing support to the community through involvement with civic organizations and special projects that contribute to the betterment of the lives of citizens in the community.
